10 Morning Rituals of Successful People
For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something. - Steve Jobs
I’m an early morning person. I typically rise and shine at 5:30 am - with the help of two alarm clocks named Watson and Willie. I really don’t mind as I love getting up before the world starts spinning. It’s “my” time and when I was working in an office I used to get really offended if people would schedule early morning meetings (7 am, really?) that interrupted this sacred time.
Working alone in my home office, I find this early morning routine even more important. No one is telling me to be at my desk at a certain hour so this routine provides discipline and motivation to keep to a schedule. In addition, I find that my morning ritual allows me to prioritize what’s most important; I usually generate a ton of new ideas that inspire action and positive energy.
Recently, I became curious as to what other people do for their morning ritual, especially highly successful people. So, I googled “morning rituals of successful people” to a.) see what successful people do in the morning b.) compare myself to successful people to see if I could be considered a successful person.
Here’s what Google says:
The Top 10 Morning Rituals of Successful People
Plan your Day
Enjoy a Healthy Breakfast
Practice Visualization and Affirmation
Work on Your Most Important Task
Spend Quality time with Loved Ones
Improvement and Self Growth
Make your Bed (I find this one interesting - The idea behind it is this…..making your bed is the first small and simple victory you are going to achieve in the morning. It makes you feel good, increase your confidence and put you in for a great start. Luckily, I’m winning here.)
I was actually pleasantly surprised by my google results. Based upon this list, I can consider myself 80% successful - on most days. I found Steve Job's morning ritual intriguing and I'm adding that to my list. It'll give me a reason to look forward to blow drying my hair. (Steph, want to join me?)
So, what is your morning ritual? I’d love to hear from you, feel free to add a comment below. By the way…. aren't you wondering why drinking coffee isn't on this list?!
